Such an exciting day yesterday! A great take-up for this Easter-theme workshop in Poole, where people could make their very own mythical bird hatching from their hand-made clay egg.
The two 3 hour workshops aimed to teach participants hand-building and press-mold techniques, how to join, sculpt and decorate this very exciting material. We used air-drying clay so that people could paint and take home their work on the day.
We had a wonderful range of age groups. Some brought their mums, some brought their kids and some their friends. After a quick introduction to the clay and a demonstration of making and decorating skills, people were able to delve into their ideas with resources and inspiration worksheets.

Everyone developed their personalised idea, and the birds soon began to develop their own characters! As you can see from the images, everyone's piece has it's own identity.
Darryl, one of the participants drew similarities with working as a designer of virtual spaces. He is able to create environments in a virtual world and so was aware of how to build and render surfaces within a digital medium. He made a great piece ... a signpost with a nest of eggs on top, then photographed it 100 times from different angles.
The images are then downloaded to a virtual platform. Now we can walk around his work move away from it and up to it ... viewing it from different angles in a virtual format! I'm FASCINATED !!! Click here or on the image below to see his work in action!
When everyone had finished the making process, some people wanted to paint their work so here are some more smiley faces with their work! Thank you to everyone who came along! It was a great day and I enjoyed every minute :)
